In the 60th year of the 1964 ethnic divide on the island of Cyprus, the Turkish Cypriots living north still suffer the pains of being subject to international embargoes. The 60 years of isolation forced on them ignores their breakaway republic, the "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" (TRNC) established in 1974, although it is their only method to survive the Greece-backed EOKA terror, which in 1963 had claimed the lives of 364 Turkish Cypriots and 174 Greek Cypriots, causing the forced displacement of 25,000 Turkish Cypriots. President Ersin Tatar of TRNC discussed the issue at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum and stressed the need for a two-state solution to maintain peace in Cyprus.
